Attitude Is Everything
I made a text to self connection with this chapter in Mind Gym. The Chapter is titled " Attitude is everything". When you think about this, this is so true! Having the luxury of traveling the country play baseball against many talented guys, you start to build relationships and see theses guys all the time at different tournaments. You see many different personalities and attitudes. Some are highly competitive and some are hot heads. I've played with a guy who has attitude issues and when we played together at USA, i could tell that scouts we turned off by the way he acted and carried himself. My dad has been on my case since day one about how you need to be respectful to everyone one around you and how you can't let you emotions show.

Getting Over Yourself
One thing i've noticed in this book is that its not a chapter book. Its more like a topic or definition that has a "chapter" of very valuable information about that topic. One of the topics in this book is "Getting Over Your self". There is 9 key definitions in this topic that they cover and express excellent examples to your everyday life.
- Fear
- Anger
- Anxiety
- Self-consciousness
- Perfectionism
- Stubbornness
- Lack of motivation
- Competitiveness
- Distractions
- Persistence
Theses 9 key factors are the elements to getting over your self. You can look at this book in many ways. I view it mostly as a guide but it can also be a "how to" when you think about it. This book is a MUST read for elite athletes. This book has already helped me with my everyday life and I'm only on part 2 of 3.

Mind Gym Text-Self
I honestly can relate to every single topic that this book talks about. I always try to find a way to apply this information to my every day life and my work ethic. So far this book has consistently talked about the mental approach to your specific craft. It talks about how you have to block out all negative noise. When playing a baseball game, i don't hear any noise besides the crack of the bat and the pop in the glove. This book also talks a lot about not letting your mind hold you back.
I sometimes compare my mind to the devils because when I'm working out my mind is constantly telling me to stop or you can't do this. When i work out, i try not to think about anything besides my form on lifts I'm preforming. Spending most of my summer in Texas, I'm very familiar with all the big colleges. I was invited to a Top 50 Prospects camp that would have every big name college in the south. At the end of the camp, coach would have each college coach come out and talk 5 minutes on what it takes to play college baseball. I listened to all of the coaches and one thing they all had in common was the mental game is a big factor in progressing in your career.
Texas Christian University ( TCU ) head coach talked a lot about the mental game. He gave us all a youtube video to watch that his players put together in 2012. I would like to share this very inspirational video with y'all.

As an Elite Athlete, Its important to have a strong mental game. As the great Yogi Berra once said "The game is 90% mental".

The Blind Side- Michael Lewis
The
theme of The Blind Side is to never give up. This is the theme because
Michael never gave up on the football field or in the classroom despite his
learning disabilities. He always looked for help if he was having trouble with
something.
(Pg. 286 Lewis)
"Never give up" not only for Michael but also for the Tuohy family because Leigh Anne Tuohy was determined to make sure Michael had a nice home to live in, have new clothes, plenty of food and water to survive, and most importantly a family to love and care for.
Blind Side Article
“ So often given the benefit of doubts,
Michael Oher now set out to confirm the wisdom of the people who showed so
much faith in him.”
